In June 1864, the Wilmington City Railroad Company opened the city's first
trolley line, including Delaware Avenue to Rising Sun Lane. Middle Depot was
located at Delaware Avenue and Dupont Street, close to the B&O Railway
passenger depot.
One hundred and twenty years later, the location where the
Middle Depot stood has become the center of a vibrant neighborhood in
Wilmington: The Village of Trolley Square.
